Moissanite is a more sustainable way to create the look of diamonds but without the mining and the price of natural diamonds.

It is made from lab-grown silicon carbide

On the Mohs scale of mineral hardness (with diamond as the upper extreme, 10) Moissanite is rated as 9.25.

The down side to Moissanite is that it tends to scratch more than a diamond as it is a little softer.

A colourless moissanite stone and a diamond are slightly different in colour. The difference is so small that it is only noticeable when comparing them side by side.

A diamond will have no traces of other colours, whereas a moissanite stone may have subtle traces of grey or yellow that can be seen in certain light.
