Lavender Dreams: Planning My Wedding with Lavender Purple (Without Going Over the Top)

When I first got engaged, I knew one thing immediately — I wanted lavender purple to be my main wedding colour.

Not deep royal purple. Not bright violet. But soft, romantic, elegant lavender.

I love how lavender feels timeless and feminine without being overpowering. It’s romantic without being cliché. But I also knew this: purple can go from dreamy to dramatic very quickly if you’re not careful.

So here’s how I’m planning my lavender wedding — plus the exact colour guide I’m using to keep everything cohesive and classy (not overwhelming).

My Lavender Wedding Colour Guide

Instead of using just one shade of purple, I built a balanced palette around lavender.

💜 Core Colour: Soft Lavender

Think muted, dusty lavender — not neon, not royal.

This is my anchor colour, not the only colour.

🤍 Balancing Neutrals (Essential!)

To avoid a “purple explosion,” I’m pairing lavender with:

  • Soft white

  • Ivory

  • Champagne

  • Warm beige

  • Soft grey

These tones calm everything down and keep it elegant.

🌿 Fresh Contrast Colours

To stop it from feeling flat or overly sweet, I’m adding:

  • Sage green

  • Eucalyptus green

  • Dusty rose (in small amounts)

  • Touches of gold (not silver for me — gold warms it beautifully)

Gold

The 60-30-10 Rule (My Secret to Not Overdoing It)

This rule changed everything for me.

  • 60% Neutral

  • 30% Lavender

  • 10% Accent (green, gold, blush)

Lavender is a feature — not the entire show.

How I’m Using Lavender in My Wedding (Without It Taking Over)

1. Invitations & Stationery

Instead of solid purple invitations, I’m choosing:

This makes lavender feel artistic and romantic — not bold and loud.

2. Bridesmaid Dresses

I’m avoiding super bright satin purple.

Instead:

This creates depth and looks effortless in photos.

3. Florals (Where Lavender Really Shines)

I’m not using only lavender flowers.

Instead, my florist is combining:

Lavender becomes a thread woven through the bouquet — not the only colour.

4. Reception Styling

Here’s where it’s easy to go overboard — purple tablecloths, purple napkins, purple centrepieces… no thank you.

Instead, I’m doing:

Lavender will live mostly in the florals and subtle details.

5. Lighting Matters More Than You Think

Purple uplighting can quickly turn a venue into a nightclub.

I’m choosing:

If I use lavender lighting, it will be subtle and only during certain parts of the evening.

6. Wedding Cake

Instead of a fully purple cake:

  • White or ivory base

  • Hand-painted lavender florals

  • Gold detailing

  • Fresh lavender sprigs

Soft, romantic, elegant.

What I’m Avoiding (To Keep It Classy)

  • ❌ Bright royal purple

  • ❌ Mixing too many purple shades randomly

  • ❌ Purple chair covers

  • ❌ Purple carpet or aisle runner

  • ❌ Matching everything exactly

Lavender should feel like a whisper, not a shout.

Lavender Through the Seasons

If you’re planning your own wedding, here’s how lavender adapts beautifully:

  • Spring – Pair with blush and fresh greens

  • Summer – Combine with white and airy florals

  • Autumn – Add mauve, dusty rose, and warm gold

  • Winter – Mix with silver and soft grey

It’s surprisingly versatile.

Why Lavender Feels So Special

Lavender symbolises:

  • Devotion

  • Serenity

  • Grace

  • Romance

And honestly, that’s exactly how I want my wedding to feel.

Not overwhelming. Not trendy.Just soft, romantic, and timeless.

Final Advice From One Bride to Another

If you love lavender — use it.

Just don’t let it take over every surface.

Let it flow through your wedding like a thread of colour tying everything together. When balanced with neutrals and soft textures, lavender feels elevated and intentional.

And when you walk into your reception and see soft hints of purple glowing in candlelight?

It feels magical.
